Organising the room - mathematics is all around us!

The students had to put the backing paper on the display boards. First they had to decide what was a good measurement tool to use to measure the boards. They ended up using the metre sticks and also string. They discussed colours and agreed upon what would be best, collaborating with the other groups in order to create a colourful classroom. They had to work together to measure and cut the correct amount of backing paper. Finally they used lots of teamwork to get the sheets of paper up on the boards. It looks great!

Mrs. Hughes came to the class to observe different signs of good team work. She saw many examples of students working effectively in a team. The two things that she really noticed were 'communication' and 'patience'!

Over the last week the students have been exploring place value and the base ten number system. We have been using 100 grids, number lines and partitioning in order to understand ways to best calculate addition and subtraction of one and two digit numbers.

 

The 3.3 Island

Today the students of 3.3 thought more about themselves. They have already begun creating a 'life map' about themselves and have also brought in objects that are important to them. Today we looked at how to create a good 'symbol' that represented who they are. The students thought about their personality and the things they like to do as well as their learning styles. They had to think about the colours that represented them best. Then they placed their symbol on the 3.3 Island where they most wanted to be. Can you work out what each person's symbol might mean?

Understanding the PYP Learner Profile

At the beginning of the year it is very important that we learn or remind ourselves of the Learner Profile attributes that we try to aspire towards.

The students are examining the Dusseldorf Radschläger in the Elementary courtyard and writing down all the attributes that are all over it. They are going to try and translate it into the different languages that they speak and take photographs of themselves showing the attributes as examples of what each one means.

Wecome to Grade 3.3

Hello and welcome to grade 3.3's learning and communication blog.

We have had a great start to the year and welcomed many new students to the class.

A warm welcome to Louis from Germany, Fanni from Hungary, Selma from Sweden, Merit from Netherlands, Gustav from Germany, Hugo from Spain and Jarryd from South Africa. We look forward to a great year learning with you and collaborating effectively so that our inquiries are interesting and fun.
