We started the year in the Advanced class with the book "Auf der Suche nach dem verschwunden Hund" (Duden, by Barbara Zoschke), which we read aloud in class. The students showed me their level of listening comprehension in German using different writing and drawing tasks.
This year we are working with the textbook and workbook "Tamburin 2, Deutsch für Kinder". We started with Unit 4. This unit is about things you can collect and can sell at a flea market. The students brought a lot of things they collect and presented them to the class. This was a very good speaking exercise. The grammar focus in this chapter is to learn the difference between the accusative and nominative in German (Der Ring ist schön. Ich mag den Ring nicht.).
At the beginning of the school year we went to the library, borrowed German books and put them in the classroom. Whenever a student finishes a work he or she can choose a book and read. Please encourage your child to take a German book home from the library for his / her reading pleasure.
Please ask your child about what they are learning in German.
